OmniOutliner Pro - It hasn't evolved significantly since 2006 and I still haven't seen anything better.Sometimes a bit laggy in development because it's an enormous and complicated program for one guy to maintain. Path Finder - The fix to many, but not all, Finder irritations.For me, nothing comes even close to the combination of power and intuitive interface of NWP. And I've tried Pages, Word, Mellel, various OpenOffice-derived suites, and even TextEdit. Nisus Writer Pro - I spend more time word processing than anything else.My personal must-have list, which has actually shrunk over the years, as OS X's built-in tools have gotten better, and the range of video formats on the web shrinks: Although Angry Birds on the computer isn't as good as on a mobile device (they really don't take advantage of the big screen all that well) it's still great to kill a few minutes here and there. However, Excel is better than Numbers most of the time.Īnd as long as you're on the Mac app store, get Stuffit Expander just in case you run into. And Pages can be useful, too, it's much easier to use than Word. There are Safari plugins such as Youtube5 that "convert" some or a lot of flash to stuff Safari can handle without plugins, though.Įven if you get Microsoft Office I'd still recommend getting at least Keynote, it's much nicer than Powerpoint. Of course that means you'll have to use Chrome to view anything that has Flash you want to see. (Well, it was two months ago.)Ĭhrome is useful because it comes with its own copy of Adobe Flash that it keeps up to date so you don't have to manually install Flash. ![]() You may want to get Skype, though, and remember that 2.8 is still available. You don't really need a third party IM client, iChat can handle most of that. ![]()
